Tinguely was a Swiss sculptor known for his kinetic art sculptures. The last photo is from the 1960’s in Amsterdam where Calder and Tinguely are both included in one of the 1st major exhibitions to explore motion in art. Tinguely drew from Calder’s engagement with movement. “With his mobiles, Calder had found a strong, direct means of expression,” Tinguely said in 1982. “Let’s just say that Alexander Calder, ‘syndical,’ as they called him, opened a door through which I could enter. So I strolled in that direction and discovered extraordinary possibilities of motion.”
